Benefits
- Cost: None. Because the Open Office Suite is free this affects not only up front purchase costs, but also
long term maintenance.
- Versatility: Should their be a need for fixing a bug, or customizing an application to your needs you need
never worry if its possible. With any other suite held under license, even if you own the software you may
not fix it without risking lawsuit under the Millenium Copyright Protection Act.
- Ease of use: The Sun Open Office interface is simple and does not see major redesigns with each version.
This keeps it easy to use and quick to learn.
- Compatability: The Open Office suite will import from other suites, and the formats it saves in open source,
ensuring the widest possible compatibility with other products.
- Operating Systems: The Open Office suite runs on the widest possible selection of Operating Systems ranging
from Mac's OS to Windows PCs to Linux workstations and servers, to Sun Unix workstations, and unlike the ported
versions of other Office Suites these run without compatibility issues between platforms.

Disadvantages
- Speed: Sun's Open Office is demanding. While any computer built and sold within the last three years can
handle it, combining it with operating systems or running applications that are demanding at the same time
can impact performance.
- Support: With no cost to you Sun is under no financial support to continue offering support for their product.
To date they have provided excellent user forums to troubleshoot information in comparison with other products
which offer, for a fee, a live person to help troubleshoot problems.
