I get endless virus warnings, advertisements, and pop-ups. How do I stop them?
Surprisingly the vast majority of security and virus alerts are actually advertisements. The key to
distinguishing the difference lies in looking for any of the following:
Mozilla Firefox [www.Mozilla.Com]
While Mozilla's firefox browser will not remove advertisements from your computer we have found it to be
rock solid in preventing them from getting onto your PC. When switching to Mozilla some add-ons will
need to be installed for it to function properly. Two common ones are Sun's Java, freely available at
www.java.com and Adobe's Flash PlayerŽ freely available at www.adobe.com.
Malware Bytes Anti-Malware [www.malwarebytes.org]
A great way to remove advertisements that have already made their way onto your system.
RKill, for when things get out of hand
[RKill]
Sometimes ads block other programs from running. When this happens its time for RKill, a temporary, but effective
solution to allow you to install more serious clean-up tools.
Spybot Search and Destroy [www.spybot.org]
An excellent tool for cleaning up systems that are victims of pop-up advertisements. Its combination of
scanning tools and blocking known dangerous sites can greatly extend the life of your computer.
